It'll grow back honey

A while ago I came to the conclusion that Lukas' long and disheveled hair was so last year andhat he needed a tidier cut for the summer. He also tends to sweat an awful lots from his head when he's asleep which made his hair look like a mop or Slash from Guns'n'Roses with his gelled locks. We had to get the job done before the holidays, and I thought I'd do it myself again since the first time was fairly successful.
My hairdresser in Edinburgh had told me earlier that if a child is too young to sit still and not move his head, it doesn't make a difference if you're a top of your game hairdresser or not - the results will be appalling anyway - so I thought I'd rather give it a go myself first than pay a tenner for someone else to ruin it for me. And how did I do? This time I remembered to take before and after photos, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Before:

After:

It's not as bad as it could've been, he literally kept shaking his head the whole time even though we were showing him his favourite video to distract him. There are a few gaps and the back and I had to tidy it up a bit more this morning, there were a few curls left that were very unsuitable for a little boy.
The weird thing is that he looks even more like me now that he has a short hair, but what's even weirder is that when I look at him I think of Graham Norton. Ronan seems to be heartbroken that the curls are gone. I'm sure it'll grow back soon but at the moment I feel like a traitor. On the upside, Lukas doesn't seem to mind his new hairstyle at all. Every time I lift Lukas up to see himself in the mirror, he points at himself and laughs.

Ah I like it, he looks like a proper wee boy!
OMG, he looks SO like you, in that first photo!!! =D
Good job! He's gorgeous.
Thank you, thank you! I still think that I shouldn't be let near him with scissors but maybe only because I nearly gave myself a heart attact trying to avoid his quick little fingers that were oh so curious to feel the scissors...
Stello, no matter which angle you look at him, he usually does look like me... :D
Handsome wee man you've got there. My boy is still growing in his bald patch, so he's a while away from haircuts yet.
Do you stay in Edinburgh? Or do you just fly over to get our hair cut?
He's so cute in the first photo, that's a great smile. But I can see why you wanted to tidy up his hair especially coming into the summer!
i ended up buying a razor for my son, which Q now uses. but you had a wee bonnie prince there with all his girls. i think you did an excellent job.
Aw, he looks so grown up!
I like it!
Terve!
Mummulta jäi nuo ihanat kiharat näkemättä täälläkertaa.
Time goes so fast, but we will meet soon! Waiting to see you after two weeks!
T. Loving Mummu
Aww, that new 'do is very stylish! It's a much better job than I ever do on my boy's hair. You'd think by 28 years old he'd have learnt to keep still and stop fidgeting!
You've inspired a Finnish design day over at Homebug by the way!
no hammastyttavan hyvaltahan tuo nayttaa..tosin taytyy tunnustaa etta tykkasin kiharoista homona. :)
suukkoja lukakselle!
kav, we lived in Edinburgh for the past 3 years but have just moved to Co. Kildare to be closer to Ronan's family. I was stalking you already in Edinburgh but never got round commenting until it was already too late for a Irish blogmeet in Scotland..
Maz, it was absolutely the right thing to do, although I think it broke the grandparents' heart as well. He got loads of compliments in at the hairdresser's salon yesterday, he's still got it without the curls!
Zoe, thanks for dropping by! I would be disowned from both our families if I started shaving the kid's hair... :D
Will come back to the rest of the comments later, busy with the kid!
Annie, he does look grown up but also younger at the same time! Weird. Ronan thinks he looks like a thug.
Kathrine, it's nice all right until you see it from behind in real life... :)
Mummu, sorry that you missed them but they'll grow back! See you very soon.
Zee, hahah! You see boys will always be boys! Thanks a million for dedicating the blogpost to Finnish design, one of the greatest loves of my life. Very honoured!
Maario, kiva kun kavit! Kai silla on taas kutrit sitten kun nahdaan ens kerran.. pus!
